Dear Family and Friends of Elsa Lake, I was blessed to study in "Dr. Lake's" class for two years. In those two years I learned just about all I needed to become a Spanish teacher myself! She was thorough in her teaching and commanded respect in the classroom. She was stern but exhibited a sense of humor. Many times I have shared special memories of her both in the classroom and after graduation. I will share one such memory. Spanish has many cognates, words that sound alike in both languages. One day in class during conversation I tried to say that I was embarrassed. So, I said, "estoy embarazada." Well, although it sounds like embarrassed, it means "I'm pregnant!" Dr. Lake quietly called me to her desk and explained my error! And then I was REALLY embarrassed! Dr. Lake was a fabulous teacher! I saved many of the notes and handouts from her classes and used them in my own professional career. I am truly thankful to the Lord for having put Elsa Lake in my path.
