Obituary for James Stark

James Stark left this world on January 28, 2018 with his loving wife and children at his side. The son of Scottish immigrants, James was born in 1929 and lived in Jersey City. In later life, he lived in Long Branch and Brick. In 1949, Jim met his true love and best friend, Nyra. They were married 67 very happy years and together they embarked on a wonderful life journey, raising a family that grew to include 2 children, 5 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. “Big Jim” as he was affectionately known to all, was a skilled bricklayer and later retired as a Construction Engineer from the NY/ NJ Port Authority, where he met many lifelong friends and always looked forward to the monthly luncheons he enjoyed with his former Port Authority co-workers. Nyra and Jim loved to travel and visited numerous world destinations, including Australia, Argentina, Europe and especially Scotland, where they remained close with Jim’s family. Las Vegas and Puerto Rico were their favorite annual trips and they maintained a vacation home in Hollywood, Florida. Jim had an affable, pleasant disposition and they often traveled with friends who enjoyed his easy going personality, cheerful demeanor and twinkling smile. Jim served as the Exalted Ruler of the Union City Elks and was happiest in the company of his family and friends. He enjoyed golf and spent many enthusiastic hours fishing and hunting with his son, Jim. Exceptionally generous and affectionate to his adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren, “Poppy” delighted in taking the whole family to the Outerbanks every year. Known for his positive outlook, Jim enjoyed life to the fullest; truly a life well lived. He was a wonderful, caring man who was never known to raise his voice, never had an enemy and never spoke ill of anyone. In return, Jim was blessed with an abundance of great friends, a large and loving family and Nyra’s devoted companionship. He will be truly missed by all who were privileged to know him. Jim was predeceased by his parents, George and Peggy; his brother George; sisters, Doris and Kay; and daughter-in-law Debbie. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Nyra; son, James; daughter, Linda De Rosa and husband Edward; grandchildren: Danielle Cregle (Mark), Aileen Matticolli (Dave), Craig DeRosa (Lauren), Jaime Stark, James Stark (Candace); great-grandchildren: Hailey, Alyssa, Jadyn, Madden, Vincent, Ryan, Justin, James, Hayden, Nicholas & Kylie. Friends will be received on Saturday, February 3rd at 10:15 am at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, 800 Ocean Avenue, West End, Long Branch, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am. Donations in Jim’s memory may be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. For condolences, please visit www.fiorefuneralhomes.com.
