Edward Petko, 88, passed away peacefully at his home in Ocean Township on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.
Ed was born and raised in Chicago. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a BSEE. He served in the US Army as an instructor/engineer at Fort Monmouth and Camp Evans where he met his bride, Gladys. After their marriage, he earned his JD from George Washington University while working full-time and raising his children. He worked at the US Patent Office before moving to NJ with Electronics Associates Inc., an innovative firm in analog and digital computing, where he rose to be President during his 25 year tenure. He also served as President of the NJ Patent Association and the Long Branch Kiwanis Club.
After his retirement, Ed and his wife enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. His hobbies included construction projects, building furniture, quilting, needlepointing, caning, and gardening.
Ed is survived by and will be greatly missed by his beloved and devoted wife, Gladys; his five daughters, Michele (Kurt) Schottleutner, Patti (Jeff) Weaver, Sharon (Ian) Petko-Bunney, Pam (Kyle) Owen, and Janice Petko; and his 11 grandchildren: Karsen Schottleutner; Leslie, Emily, David, and Aliza Weaver; Hannah and Gareth Petko-Bunney; and Austin, Jordan, Elijah, and Coleman Owen; and dear friends Liz, Bill, Hailey and Bennett Moss. He is predeceased in death by his granddaughter Madison Schottleutner. His patient, loving and determined nature, as well as his humor and passion for life will forever be cherished by his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Ed’s memory to the Madison Schottleutner Scholarship Fund, c/o Michele Snyder, Ursuline Academy, 4900 Walnut Hill Lane, Dallas, TX 75229.
Visitation will held at the Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, Ocean Township on Sunday, July 16 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Please visit www.fiorefuneralhomes.com.
