Dr. Elsa J. Lake, 82, of Elberon, NJ, loving wife, sister, aunt and friend passed away peacefully at home on 13 June 2017. Dr. Lake was married for 50 years to Floyd J. Lake. She was born in Havana, Cuba where she practiced law after graduating from the University of Havana. Dr. Lake immigrated to the United States in 1960. She earned her Masters and PhD in Spanish Literature and began teaching Spanish at Ocean Township High School. Dr. Lake loved to teach. After 35 years teaching at Ocean Township she “retired” and took a position as an adjunct Spanish professor at Monmouth University. She taught Spanish for 18 years at the university and was looking forward to meeting new students in the Fall of 2017. Dr. Lake loved to spend time with her family and friends and was happiest when surrounded by her loved ones. Through her steadfast faith she prayed for all, cared for all, and was loved by all.
Dr. Lake was predeceased by her husband, Floyd Lake, and her parents, Manuel Taboada and Yldefonsa Jorge, of Havana, Cuba. She is survived by her brother, Dr. Alberto Taboada and wife Jean; nieces and nephews, Karen O’Hare and husband Michael of Manasquan; Keith Taboada and wife Patti of Brielle; Linda Derrick and husband Richard Jr. of Basking Ridge; Brian Taboada and wife Amanda Bottomley of Island Heights; and Alan Taboada and wife Judy of Oceanport; grand nieces and nephews, Jordan, Katharine, Riley and Michael O’Hare; George and Ana Taboada; Morgan and Richard Derrick III; Peter and Mark Taboada; and Atticus, Ruby and Zoe Taboada.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Sacred Heart Church, 751 Main Avenue Bay Head, NJ, Tuesday June 20th, at 11 am. Interment will be private. For condolences, please visit www.fiorefuneralhomes.com.
