Alfred E. Caponigro, 91, of Ocean Township, died Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church, Asbury Park. He was a US Navy veteran of WW II, a life member and Past Exulted Ruler of the Montclair Elks and a charter member of the Italian American Association of the Township of Ocean.

He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Helen; his parents, Rocco and Frances Caponigro.

Surviving are his 7 children, Alfred E. Caponigro, Jr., Rosemary Smentkowski, Elena Mazza and Mark, Richard, Lori Anne and Rory Caponigro; sister, Grace Hunt and 23 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 2-4 & 7-9 pm Friday at the Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, Ocean Township. Funeral Saturday 8:30 am from the funeral home followed by a 10 am Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Asbury Park. Entombment will be at Holmdel Mausoleum, Holmdel. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital,
