Obituary for Edwin S. White

Edwin S.  White
Eddie White, long-time resident of Oakhurst, passed away Sunday, May 28 at Monmouth Medical Center at the age of 91. Raised in West Long Branch, he graduated from Long Branch High School, served in the US Navy where he faced combat aboard the USS Coolbaugh during WWII, sold mutual tickets at Monmouth Park Race track, was the owner and sole proprietor of White’s Food Center on Monmouth Road in Oakhurst for 27 years and served as the first civilian police dispatcher for the Ocean Township Police Department, a position he held for 15 years. Following retirement he started his own painting business.
He will always be fondly remembered by his customers, friends and family including his wife Anne of 68 years, daughter Karen (Robert), sons Keene and Kevin (Vicki), grandchildren Jessica (Mike), Karine (Dan), Louis, Danny and Kacey (Nate) and 8 great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 4-8 pm Thursday at the Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst. Funeral service will be held at 10 am Friday at the First United Methodist Church of Oakhurst.
