I was saddened to hear of Kuni's death. Even though Kuni and I had not connected in many years, I still have fond memories of those childhood days we spent together growing up in Michigan. Since our mothers were sisters, we often celebrated holidays and special occasions as an extended family. Please know that my thoughts are with you during this time of mourning.

Kuni was a superb art major at Valparaiso University from 1964 to 1968. She created eleven surprisingly fresh, religiously sound, beautiful devotional Chapel worship-folder cover designs that are still being celebrated. They are treasured in the Archives at Valparaiso University.

Dear John and family:

We have wonderful Nuechterlein family memories, being good friends of Kuni's parents.

Among the children we remember Kuni as a beautiful young artistic student. She carved a delicate candle for us while she was in high school, which we cherished for many years.

John and Kuni visited us in Boulder, Colorado on a trip west not so many years ago, and we kept in occasional contact with them over the years.

We have loving memories of Kuni. We share our thanks to John and others for the loving care she received during her serious illness. With since sympathy, and with good wishes,

Lorna and Wil Bernthal
