Obituary for Joseph J Vitaliano

Joseph J. Vitaliano, 65, of Tinton Falls, died Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at
Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, after a brief illness, with his beloved
wife at his side.

He was born in Long Branch and lived in Natick, MA and West Long Branch before
moving to Tinton Falls 18 years ago.

Joe was a Fishery Biologist at the James J. Howard Marine Sciences Laboratory,
of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, on Sandy Hook from
1986-2014 before retiring in February of this year. Prior to that, he was a
research scientist for the United States Army Natick Labs in Natick,
Massachusetts. He wrote and published several research articles and conducted
seminars that were work related.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree at Northeastern University, in Boston,
where he was a proud member of the Nu Epsilon Zeta fraternity. Joe earned a
Master of Science degree from Rutgers University in New Jersey. He was also a
member of the American Fisheries Society.

Joe imparted critical thought and honesty through dialogue. Family, travel,
cuisine, writing and intellectualism were just some of his many passions and
loves.

He was predeceased by his parents, William J and Mary (Beluta) Vitaliano.

Surviving are his wife, Norah Walsh Vitaliano; brother, William and his wife
Jaeme Vitaliano of West Long Branch; nephew, William Vitaliano; niece, Victoria
Vitaliano; aunt, Kay Sparandeo of West Long Branch; godmother Dorothy Szczecina;
godson, Steven Szczecina; mother-in-law, Petronilla Walsh; sister-in-law,
Cynthia and her husband Michael Loring; nephew, Joshua Loring and niece,
Kristina Loring and many cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 4 to 7 pm with a service at 6:30
pm Friday at the Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst.
